 With 2023 and renewed motivation along with some hard discipline I have found enriched joy playing music again. 

I am not sure what to do with it. But I hope to find an outlet as well as increased activity within the ukulele club. 

So here’s to the new year and new music opportunities. 

Summer 2022: Hawaiian Luaus

 Well it appears the fates had in mind for us to dust off our Hawaiian luau music, update it, and perform. So far we are set to do five luaus this summer and it’s only May sixth. Be prepared to more concerts as the summer comes. 

Contact us if you are in need of ukulele Hawaiian Luau music. Our group is preparing a set list of almost two hours. 

Spring 2022

 We are now meeting at NYC Pizza on the third Thursday of the month and at Burgudy Place all other Thursdays. 

At NYC Pizza we start off with our in house open mic and jam together following. 

At Burgundy Place we jam or practice for upcoming concerts.

Post Covid.

 We are meeting again. See our Google Website for details. 

We are performing at the Trop Rock event September 16, 1pm. Trop Rock performance book is new for this year. Please print or put on your tablet. 

We hope to do more performances for retirement villages. We just played Bellarose with a new list of more modern songs than previously. 

We are jamming at Burgudy Place. We hav to wear masks except when we are in the meeting room. Must check in at the front desk. Sign in and answer Covid questions on table. 

New Facebook Group

The Tulsa Uke Club on Facebook still carries on but our main group page is now Tulsa Ukulele Club.

It has been several years since Captain, who founded this Blog, has passed on.  Before he died, he did not set up any alternate to manage the FaceBook club account (Tulsa Uke Club) and after trying to get a replacement as the account leader, we have given up.

One of the problems is that folks could not join the group since this required the authorization of the leader, now deceased.

Out new FaceBook page is "Tulsa Ukulele Club" and Rex is the person in charge.

For a while you will see both groups showing up in a search, but from now on, all the new material will be in the new group.

It is mid summer here in Tulsa and as usual it is pretty warm.  But that is not holding us back in terms of participation. 

We just completed an eight week program with the Tulsa School District to provide some entertainment to the 2 to 4 year old children in their CAP program for children living in conditions classified as poverty.  We played and sang the ABC, Twinkle, Twinkle and similar songs, getting them involved.  A lot of fun for us, and a nice break for the kids.

And we are now a routine act in the Olio portion of the Drunkard show at the Spotlight theater.

Our regular Thursday evening jams continue, most of the time at the Burgundy Place retirement village, we are continuing to give the residents and guests in the Cancer Center of America lobby some entertainment, and we are continuing our open mike nights and jams at the NYC Pizza shop.  Occasionally a retirement facility requests some entertainment and these special events help make our programs for the Tulsa ukulele world pretty busy.

Mark Baker Workshop

Mark Baker stopped by and delivered a great workshop on adding color to our playing and singing followed by a wonderful concert. Great playing and singing with a wonderful ukulele and top notch sound system Mark made the room a chamber of awesome sound.

He gave us many points to work on to bring us up to the next level of performing. I have intentions of implementing many of these points while we jam so it will be second nature to perform with them.

Long overdue update.

Wow we have neglected this blog.
We have been playing in the lobby of the Cancer Treatment Center (1st Thursday of the month).
We have been doing our club open mic at NYC Pizza (2nd Thursdays of the month). We have been jamming at Burgundy Place the remaining thursdays of the month. Unless special occasions arise.
As has happened tonight where we will be playing at The Broadmoor Retirement facility.

We've played the Olio at the Spotlight Theater a few times.
A few of us have played at the Coffee Bunker.
A few have played in Claremore at She Brews Coffee House.
A few have made several trips to Stillwater for Open Mic night.

Last summer a select group played multiple shows for the CAP preschool program in the Tulsa area and are preparing to do it again in the summer of 2018.

Rex and I have been talking about our club and where it is and where it might be going and we decided on preparing a mission statement.  Here is our current effort

Ukulele Strumming on Route 66

Operated by Ralph Kelley (founder) and Rex Powell (music director) the 

Tulsa Ukulele Club brings the opportunity to those who wish to join the 

joy of ukulele playing.  We mostly gather to play ukuleles in a jam 

session setting but sometime venture out to perform. We have a monthly 

in house Open Mic Night for those who wish to play solo or duet (or more) 

arrangements.  Although our meetings aren't instructional we welcome and 

will assist any skill level. We welcome and encourage all skill levels to 

attend and grow.

We had a nice small group for the sing-a-long at University Village 10-20-17.  This is a nice place to play and the residents are super nice.

Tonight at University Village we will perform our sing along songs for the residents. Lyrics will be projected for the residents to be able to sing along.

9 Feb 2017 Open Mic

We have change the 9 Feb 2017 meeting location to  Burgundy Place.

One item discussed at lor most recent ukulele meeting was the level of activity the group wanted during this holiday season,

We decided that we did want to continue to have weekly meetings through the remaining three Thursdays in December.  We recognize that there will be days that folks will be busy with holiday activities and the attendance might be a bit lower than normal, but that on balance, we should continue to meet.

So plan on the club meeting the rest of the month at our regular time but for December (and likely continuing into next year) at the Burgundy Place retirement facility (89th and S. Lewis).

Our next club meeting will be in the dining area of the Cancer Center, 81st and 169 next Thursday, at 6:30.

Storey Oaks gig

A few of us went to the Storey Oaks memory care center over the Thanksgiving weekend.  A very receptive audience.   Will probably go there again some time in the future.

We have been invited to do this Thursday's jam at a retirement community.  Same time (6:30), same fun, different place.
